Lattices for padel courts at the CDM Margot Moles

Lattices for the paddle tennis courts of the Margot Moles Municipal Sports Center

Margot Moles (1910-1987) was a pioneer in women’s sport at the beginning of the twentieth century. Recognized in 1936 as the best ski athlete, she also competed in other sports, such as hockey, swimming, athletics, or hammer throwing, even participating in international sporting events. A teacher by profession, she actively participated in events in favor of the Republic during the war, and due to its significance, the end of the war meant her expulsion from the educational center where she worked, and in 1942, the execution of her husband, also a sportsman Manuel Pina.

In recognition of her actions in favour of equality between men and women and for her pioneering activity in women’s sport, since 2018 she has named the Vicálvaro Municipal Sports Complex, in the city of Madrid.

Sun protection needs

Within the municipal sports complex, new indoor paddle tennis courts have been incorporated, which allow the practice of this sport throughout the year.

As usual in this sport, the areas from the ground to 3 meters high are protected by transparent elements for the bounce of the ball, but precisely because of this factor, they are usually very reflective, and therefore require sun protection systems that prevent glare. For this reason, together with the roof that will allow the practice of paddle tennis even in the rain, lattices have been designed for paddle tennis courts on the perimeter of the building, which increases the hours in which this sport can be practiced.

Our contribution to the project

For this project, it has been decided to incorporate lattices for paddle tennis courts model
UPF-105
. The key factors for their choice lie in both technical and economic pillars, two points to be taken into account in this type of solution.

The technical factors in the incorporation of these lattices for padel courts that have weighed the most consist of the advantages in terms of sun protection of the fixed slatted lattices with inclination, as well as the excellent properties of this lattice, which thanks to its tubular aluminum battens admits spans between anchors of up to 120cms (with the consequent savings in auxiliary structures). and thanks to this same system, it adapts especially well to areas with curved cuts, as is the case of the enclosure of this building. Lacquered aluminium tubular joists provide added value in strength and durability, factors to be taken into account in buildings of this type. In addition, thanks to our policy of manufacturing products without planned obsolescence, it is a material that can be repaired at very low costs, without the need for complex and costly replacements.

On an economic level, it should be noted that despite all the advantages of the product already mentioned, we are still talking about one of the most economical sun protection solutions in our range, which has made it possible to cover the four facades of the building with lattices, thus maintaining a uniform aesthetic for the entire perimeter.
UPF-105 has previously been used as lattices for padel courts, and has an excellent history of resistance, with very good aesthetic and functional results, factors that position it as preferential for use in projects that require lattices for padel courts.
